- Uttaryani Festival in Delhi from Thursday
Delhi Government since 2015 has been organising the Uttaryani Festival in celebration of the culture and heritage of our fellow citizens who have their origins in Uttarakhand and/or belong to the Purvanchali area.
The Delhi Government conducted 4 programs in 2015-16, and is conducting 20 programs this year as part of an Uttarayani Mahotsav.
The Uttarayani Mahotsav will start from 12th to 14th January 2016 at Patpargunj with an Uttarayani event on 12 January at Badrinath Mandir, West Vinod Nagar. Renowned artists like Prasiddh Yuva Lok Gayak Gajender Rana, Bishan Hariyala and Mukesh Kataith will perform other folk supporting artists. Art and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra will grace the occasion along with senior bureaucrats from the Delhi Government. Deputy Chief Minister Mr Manish Sisodia is also expected to join this celebration
This program and festival is historic because the Delhi Government for the first time is officially conducting, funding and organising mass-scale Uttarayani festivals for the Purvanchali community through support from the Hindi Academy, Teerth Yatra Vikas Committee and the Sahitya Kala Parishad. In past governments, no such institutional support had been provided.
20 programs this year are a marked scale-up for the Delhi Government and shows its commitment to promoting and celebrating the Purvanchali art, culture and heritage.
