- Auto rickshaw/Taxi unions call off proposed strike after their meeting with Delhi Transport Minister Mr Gopal Rai

A meeting was convened on Monday (March 14) in the official chamber of the Minister of Transport, Shri Gopal Rai. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Transport and was attended by the officials of Transport Department apart from various Auto-Rickshaw/ Taxi Unions office bearers.
The various unions had the following grievances due to their loss of business because of the unauthorized APP based companies:
1. The App based companies are offering much cheaper fares resulting in financial loss to the Auto Rickshaw/Taxi permit holders. Transport Minister Shri Gopal Rai assured that wide publicity will be done by the Transport Department to prevent Auto Rickshaws/Taxies from getting attached with unauthorized APP based companies. Transport Department will strengthen the PUCHHO APP to promote the APP based business in Delhi.
2. Hike in Toll tax by MCD from Rs.65/- to Rs 100/- for taxies causing financial losses. The Auto/Taxi Unions requested to waive the Toll tax for Delhi Registered Taxies on the lines of the exemption for Auto Rickshaws with NCR permits.
Minister of Transport directed the Transport Department to take up this matter with MCD for relaxation of Toll charges for Taxies on the lines of Auto Rickshaw. This exemption will reduce the cost of transit in NCR townships.
3. Taxis registered under DL-1RT- Series be limited to the driving licence and PSV badge holders.
Transport Minister asked to the department to study the matter in details and look into the feasibility.
Shri Rai said that various unions and their office bearers were satisfied with the discussions and assurance. The Unions and their representatives unanimously decided to call off the proposed strike during the meeting.
