CEO Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) suspended three Engineers for deficiencies in the quality of “Construction of Toilets at JJ Basti Harijan Camp, Chunna Bhatti, Kirti Nagar & in JJ Basti Reshma Camp, near A-2 Block, WHS, Kirti Nagar”. As per the directions given by Hon’ble Chief Minister & Dy. Chief Minister, DUSIB is working in mission mode for making Delhi ‘Open Defecation (OD) Free’.
For the first time, a survey of OD spots was done by the engineers of DUSIB and 234 OD spots have been identified and on the basis of gap analysis carried out , there is a requirement of about 19,000 toilets in order to make JJ Bastis of Delhi Open Defecation Free. For this purpose, Delhi Govt. has provided a budget of Rs. 100 Crore in addition to Rs. 55 Crore made available by the Govt. of India under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Last year, DUSIB has added 4500 toilet seats in JJ bastis of Delhi and it has made a detailed Action Plan for construction of toilets in all the JJ Bastis in Delhi during the current year.
In this process, two toilet complexes at JJ Basti Reshma Camp and JJ Basti, Harijan Camp, Chunna Bhatti, Kirti Nagar, were inaugurated on 30-04-2016 where CEO, DUSIB was also present.
During the course of inspection of the complexes, a number of deficiencies in the quality of construction were noticed by CEO (DUSIB) who immediately ordered a Quality Audit of the work by the Quality Control Unit. Although, in the present case, the third party quality assurance was given to National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM), Ballabhgarh.
Based on the report of the Quality Control Unit, CEO (DUSIB) placed under suspension to Sh.Satish Chand Sharma, EE, Sh.Virender Anand, AE & Sh.Sanjay Gulati, JE and ordered Vigilance Inquiry/initiation of disciplinary action against the officials. CEO (DUSIB) also said that there cannot be any compromise on the quality of construction.
