- Delhi Govt. on Tuesday (March 15) celebrated World Consumer Rights Day at Delhi Secretariat.

Sh. Imran Hussain, Hon'ble Minister for Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs was the Chief Guest to mark the occasion which was also attended by Secretary-cum-Commissioner, Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs alongwith President of State Commission, Members of State Commission and Presidents & Members of District Forums alongwith other Senior Officers from various Departments and school children with their teachers.
World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated on 15th March every year for lending solidarity to the international consumer movement. The theme of this year’s World Consumer Rights Day was “Antibiotics off the Menu”.
On this occasion, children from two Schools presented Nukkad Natak. Students of Laxmi Bai Nagar Govt. School showed the disadvantages and harmful effects of taking antibiotics. Bal Bharti School, Rohini, highlighted the various problems and issues faced by Consumers.
School children with their skills, wits and humour, effectively conveyed the message of consumer awareness, consumer interests and the consequences of overuse of antibiotics. Commissioner, Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department informed that in order to encourage consumer awareness among the budding citizens of society, Department had conducted a competition of students at Garden of Five Senses on 12th March 2016 for poster making, slogan writing and painting. Winners of 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize were given Rs.5,000/-, Rs.3,000/- and Rs.2,000/- respectively. It was also informed that 70 Consumer Clubs have so far been opened in schools of Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Imran Hussain, Hon'ble Minister informed that Govt. Of Delhi will be opening more Consumer Clubs in schools. Hon'ble Minister lauded the efforts of participating school children in conveying the message of consumer awareness and overuse of antibiotics through their performance and encouraged them to further spread the message through their parents, relatives, fellow students and friends so that unfair and unhealthy practices causing exploitation of consumers on the part of manufacturers and suppliers could be put under effective societal control.
Hon'ble Minister also requested Presidents and Members of State Commission and District Forums to redress the grievances of consumers under Consumer Protection Act in order to strengthen the consumer awareness movement in the society.
