  • 21 child labourers rescued by District West team from the premises of 03 commercial establishments in Nihal Vihar & Kavita Colony area

A continuous effort to curb the menace of child labour is being carried out by the West District Administration by conducting rescue operations at regular intervals. In one of such rescue operations information about use of child labour by different commercial establishments in the area of Nihal Vihar & Kavita Colony in District West was received by Administration on 9th Februay, 2016.

Shri Awanish Kumar, Sub Divisional Magistrate (Punjabi Bagh) conducted raids with the help of other departments like Delhi Police, Labour Department and NGO Bachpan Bachao Aandolan (BBA).

The raids were conducted in the morning of 11th February, 2016 in a shoe making factory, garments factory & plastic appliances factory at Nihal Vihar & Kavita Colony. During the raids, total 21 boys were rescued, youngest rescued child being as young as of the age of 8 years.

While interacting with the rescued children, it was revealed that they all were brought from different districts of Uttar Pradesh & Bihar. Medical examinations of all the rescued children were conducted by a team of doctors from Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, after which, the rescued children were sent to Mukti Asharam, Nathupura, Burari, a wing of BBA. Police authorities were further directed to investigate the matter and take necessary legal action as per prevailing law including Child Labour Act, 1986, Bonded Labour Act, 1976 & JJ Act, 2000.

A similar raid was also conducted on 10.02.2016 at J-8/108, Rajouri Garden by Shri Virender Singh, Sub Division Magistrate (Rajouri Garden). During the raid, 02 bonded labourers were rescued, out of which 01 girl of 18 years belongs to Assam and a boy of 19 years from Jharkhand. The rescued girl was handed over to her brother, who came to Delhi in search of his sister and boy was sent to Mukti Ashram, a wing of BBA. Their dues, amounting to Rs. 105000/- was also recovered from the family who employed them.
