  • PM 2.5 & PM 10 air pollution levels showing a marked decline in Delhi

The consistent trend of around 50 % decline in air pollution measured through both PM 2.5 & PM 10 levels in Delhi, in comparison to the average data of last five years, continues according to the latest ambient air data collected by mobile teams of Delhi Pollution Control Committee on Monday (11th Jan) at 17 locations, through mobile dust samplers on using the Light Scattering Technique.

(Please find attached the data of 17 locations about Jan 11 measurements)

  • PM 2.5 air pollution levels on Monday at these 17 locations showed recordings of less than 200 (ug/m3) at 12 locations, which is around 50% less than average recordings since the odd-even regulations were put in place for four wheeled vehicles since 1st January.
  • Five locations showed PM 2.5 measurements less than 100 and seven locations showed measurements between 100-200.
  • Of these total 17 locations, lowest measurement was at 91 and the highest at 268, indicating a clear dip in even peak recordings of PM 2.5 pollution levels.
  • Out of a total of around 167 locations across the national capital, where mobile DPCC teams have so far collected ambient air data since 1st January, Monday’s data continues the trend the most encouraging results so far, which were observed on Saturday, further proving that reduction of vehicular traffic has resulted in lower air pollution in Delhi.
  • In 17 locations measured on Monday, even the PM 10 air pollution levels have also shown a marked decline.
  • PM 10 levels have been recorded between 172-568.
  • In 9 of the 17 locations, PM 10 levels were recorded at less than 300.
  • According to the scientists, sunny weather conditions on Monday were favourable, though less than Saturday, when a positive wind speed had added to the positive air quality.
  • Scientists have been consistently predicting that with the improvement in weather conditions, the results of odd/even formula for four wheeled vehicles has started showing positive results.
