- Deputy Chief Minister inaugurates reclamation of forest in order to restore clean air, clean water and energy energy
Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Shri Manish Sisodia and the Minister of Forest and Environment, Shri Imran Hussain inaugurated today the restoration and reclaiming of the forestland abutting Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in Neb Sarai area of Delhi. This was the task taken up by the Panchavati Green Movement (PGM) comprising of the children aged between 12 to 14 years which came ahead in order to clean water and clean energy and clean air.
This forest is currently being used as a dumping ground for garbage and debris. Besides, the dust emanating from the forest is damaging the lungs of millions of children in Delhi and these children from nearby schools are motivated in this new campaign to save the environment for the next generation.
With the cry of “QUIT INDIA POLUTION”, tens of thousands of children from the schools of the Capital marched from Raisina Hills to the National Stadium last year to present to the environment Minister one million signature claiming their constitutional right to CLEAN AIR – CLEAN WATER & CLEAN ENERGY
In England, children of 120 Nations gathered at the first children conference organized by the UNEP in 1995, to voice their concern about the gradual damage and destruction of the global environment.
India presented Panchavati Green Movement (PGM), the movement that became the example to many children all over the world. The activities of PGM, captivated the imagination of young people and the Government of the Bermuda Islands extended an invitation to the young leaders of PGM to initiate a similar movement in their country.
