New Delhi: 22/01/2016
- EWS Admission Deadline Extended to 5th February 2016.
Government of Delhi has decided to extend the deadline for EWS/DG Admissions under Right To Education Section 12(1)(c) from22nd January 2016 to 5th February 2016. The decision of the Government will facilitate thousands of families in enrolling their children to schools of their choice. It is in the spirit of improving transparency, accountability and friendliness that the online application process through Centralised Lottery has been instituted. Its advantages are listed below:
A. In the earlier system of decentralised admission, there were thousands of complaints against schools including complaints involving denial of issuance or submission of admission forms, issuing acknowledgement receipts, and irregularities in lottery. With Centralised Lottery, the interference of the schools has been nullified resulting into a drop of violations by nearly 90%.
B. There was no system to track the attendance, and drop outs of the children enrolled under the EWS quota that the Government had. Government is now in position to track each student till they complete their education. It will enable us to reduce drop out rates and improve their attendance.
C. Since the computer literacy is not high, the Government trained employees from nearly 120 NGOs (120) which are located in the most vulnerable communities of Delhi to assist parents through form filling.
D. The government trained volunteers of several MLAs’ offices who conducted hundreds of documentation and application camps across Delhi.
E. Government received information regarding some minor glitches with regard to the website which the department promptly fixed.
As a result of its efforts, Government has received nearly 70,000 unique applications for the 25,000 seats it has. This is the first time that EWS admission applications have come in, on such a large scale. However, there have been requests from a large number of parents, that they are still in the process of getting the necessary documents required for the EWS application, the Directorate of Education has decided to extend the deadline for receiving applications for EWS seats in Private schools.
