  • Environment Minister seeks facts about sighting of a leopard in Delhi

Environment and Forest Minister Mr Imran Hussain has directed the Forest Department to ascertain facts about the reported sighting of a leopard in the Yamuna Biodiversity Park.

The Minister said that sighting of wild cats is a good indicator of quality forest area, but expressed his concern that lack of security measures may pose danger to people residing in nearby areas.

In a meeting with the Additional  Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Chief Wildlife Warden and other officials of the department, Mr Hussain said after ascertaining all relevant facts efforts should be made to catch the leopard alive with help of Central Zoo Authority and no harm should be caused to the animal.  

Shri AK Shukla, Chief Wildlife Warden informed that two wildlife inspectors have been deputed to inspect the area for finding the pug marks for actual assessment of age of the leopard, if available. He informed about placing the cage at appropriate place with bait once the location of the animal is identified.

Delhi govt provides Rs one lakh compensation each to 105 shopkeepers of Tibetan Market

Delhi government has provided Rs one lakh compensation each to 105 shopkeepers of the Tibetan Market near Jama Masjid so far, whose shops were gutted in a fire earlier this month.

Environment Minister Mr Imran Hussain has distributed the cheques to the shopkeeper victims of the fire, whose shops were gutted on the night of 8th November. (Total amount of cheques of Rs. 1.05 crore have been distributed to the victims of this incident so far).

Fire had engulfed the shops at the Tibetan Market  near Jama Masjid, Himalayan Region in Park No.3, Meena Bazar, New Delhi in the early hours of 8th November 2016.

138 shops engaged in the business of readymade garments of woollen items were gutted in the fire. Fire Brigades were immediately called, but not a single shops of the Tibetan Refugee Woollen Association Camp could be saved. The members of the Woollen Association Camp had met Shri Imran Hussain and requested for immediate ex-gratia relief to all the victim shopkeepers.

Shri Hussain immediately took up the issue with the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister, Divisional Commissioner and the District Magistrate to ensure immediate relief of a  maximum ex-gratia amount of Rs one lakh per shop/person.

Shri Hussain has so far distributed the cheques to 105 victims/shopkeepers.
