  • Deputy Chief Minister releases Delhi Flood Control Order, 2016.
  • All Government Departments and Municipal bodies made presentations on the preparedness for effective flood control in Delhi this monsoon.

 

Deputy Chief Minister Mr Manish Sisodia on Friday chaired the meeting of Apex Committee to review the flood preparedness of various departments and civic agencies. The meeting was attended by Health Minister Mr Satyendra Jain, Water Minister Mr Kapil Mishra, Environment Minister Mr Imran Hussain, Minister, Chief Secretary Mr KK Sharma, Divisional Commissioner and HODs of various departments/Senior officers and Commissioners of three Municipal Corporations & District Magistrates of all the Districts.
Presentations were made by Irrigation & Flood Control Dept, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, NDMC, Delhi Jal Board, PWD and DDA showing various measures taken by them to overcome any eventuality during the current flood season. All these departments intimated the area of their jurisdiction length of Drains, Roads and Sewage lines, Machineries available with them , vulnerable points from the flood point of views, additional man powers, setting up of Control Room/24 X 7 (1077/22051234) Helpline and challenge/strategies to cope with the water logging and flood condition during the ensuing monsoon season.
A central Flood Control Room has been established under the control of District Magistrate (East) in his office which will operate round the clock till 15th October, 2016. The officials of departments and civic agencies i.e. I&FC, DDA, PWD, NDMC, EDMC, SDMC, DTC, DJB, BSES, MTNL, Delhi Police and DDMA will remain present in the control room as well as on the field to mitigate any problem related to their respective departments during monsoon season.
A manual containing important information called Flood Control Order, 2016 was unveiled by the Deputy Chief Minister. The Booklet contains telephone numbers of the control rooms, details of flood control machinery, scheme of operation like danger level & flashing of warnings, list of vulnerable points, duties of various departments and other agencies along with important information about river embankments, operation of regulators etc. (PLEASE FIND ATATCHED A COPY OF THE MANUAL).
The Divisional Commissioner highlighted the main features and importance of the said manual. He emphasized that commissioners of MCDs should allow disposal of silt, removed from drains by various departments at SLF sites to ensure that the silt does not flow back into the drains during rains.
The Deputy CM stressed that a unified helpline number should be installed for receiving information of water logging and other flood situations from public for rapid response. He further suggested the need of coordinated efforts among various agencies to prevent water logging.
Mr Sisodia appreciated the efforts made by various agencies during desilting of drains and expressed hope that this year incidents of water logging in Delhi would be less in Comparison to previous years. He expected that senior officers will put in their best efforts by working day & night in close coordination while handling the water-logging problem in different areas.
The Deputy Chief Minister also emphasized the need of adopting various methods of water harvesting and utilizing rain water to recharge ground water that will automatically reduce the water-logging. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the Chairman and members of the Apex Committee by Mr. Kulanand Joshi, District Magistrate, East District.
