The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. Manish Sisodia, chaired a meeting on the preparedness to handle Dengue and on efforts to be taken to step up the preparedness at the Delhi Secretariat on July 27, 2016. The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary Delhi, Officials of Health Department, NDMC officials, Officials of UD, members of East/North and South Delhi Municipal Corporations, Divisional Commissioner, all DMs, Officials of Education Department and Officials of Delhi Health Services.
The Deputy Chief Minister enquired about the schedule of distribution of Dengue awareness pamphlets, schedule of door to door visits of health workers with Dengue awareness kits, awareness programme, preparedness of hospitals etc.
“We must prepare at war level, let’s start at all levels now. Devise methods to stop panic over Dengue. Panic is one of the challenges we are facing. We must prepare a communication plan to let people know about Dengue in detail and help them not to go in panic mode. We must have a quick response team which will communicate with the people of Delhi,” said the Deputy Chief Minister.
Assuring Mr. Sisodia on their preparedness, Department of Health, Corporations, Revenue and other stakeholder department officials said that they are geared up to handle the Dengue menace and further gearing up to meet any emergency situation.
The department of Health told that they have started three-months in advance as compared to last year. The department said that they have already had meetings with RWAs, Corporations and Schools over Dengue. The health department informed that they were ready with the community awareness kits and plan to reach-out to 45-lakh households with the kits. They also shared the health department’s awareness programme in the meeting.
The Department of Health also informed about the workshops on Dengue done with all Mohalla Clinics, orders of cap on rate of tests related to Dengue etc. They also informed about the 355 Fever Clinics to be run for the menace; most of which are already working.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that he will monitor Dengue closely and asked the health officials to send him a daily report on the disease. He also enquired on the number of beds being increased for Dengue, to which the health department told him that they were having good number of beds and will convert the vacant beds into Dengue beds as and when required.
The officials of Revenue department also said that they were prepared fully and are in a confident state. They told that all the DMs have been asked to coordinate and act for handling Dengue in their respective areas. The Sub-Division level preparations were also in place and they have been asked to carry the activities for awareness, prevention and other steps required to stop Dengue, it was told. Volunteers are being pressed in, RWAs, Schools etc are being reached out by the Revenue department. The Revenue department will seek report from the hospitals in their areas over the disease.
The Deputy Chief Minister also asked the DMs to send teams for surprise check in hospitals to look for preparations and actual position of the Dengue patients admitted.
The Corporations told that they have started issuing challans against the people in whose premises mosquito breeding was happening and work is going on a war scale. The Deputy CM asked them whether they have got the funds for Dengue or not to which they replied that they have received all the funds.
The Dy CM also offered the Corporations human resource if they required in the process of issuing challans and asked for the raw and comparative challan data from them.
Mr. Sisodia also asked the officials to work out a coordination programme between the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporations for handling Dengue, awareness and issuing challans over mosquito breeding.
