The Minister of Tourism, Government of Delhi, Mr. Kapil Mishra on April 1, 2016 met the North Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Mr. Ravindra Gupta over the issue of rejuvenation of Naini Lake.
The Tourism Minister initiated the meeting after environmentalists and local residents raised concerns over the dead water body.
In the meeting it was decided to rejuvenate the Naini Lake, a dead water body located in North Delhi. The Delhi Tourism will work to rejuvenate, conserve and revive the Naini Lake for boating and other such supporting activities.
The main benefit of Delhi Government taking over the maintenance work of Naini Lake would be efficient and effective conservation of the water body. The Delhi Government will also take strong measures to improve the biodiversity of the pond.
Renowned environmentalist Professor CR Babu's plan will be implemented at the Naini Lake which will ensure that the lake rejuvenation is effective and done without any engineering reinforcement or harm to the natural biodiversity of the Naini Lake.
North DMC grants license for boating and supporting activities on revenue sharing model of 12.5% between North DMC and DTTDC.
Delhi Government initiative will bring huge tourism opportunity along with creating a new lake tourism destination in Delhi as well.
