  • Delhi Government extends support to The Coalition, a festival of creativity, now in its third edition
  • 300 speakers, 30 curators, 11 streams, hundreds of new ideas come together at the Talkatora Stadium from March 4-6

Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra on Wednesday announced his support to the upcoming edition of The Coalition (TC3). TC3 brings India’s creative community together under one roof with the aim of fuelling the next wave of creative ventures in the country. The third edition of The Coalition - the festival of creativity - is scheduled to take place on March 4-6, 2016 in New Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium. The 3-day festival features over 300 speakers across 11 creative disciplines including Art & Photography, Makers, Food & Beverage, Design, Journalism, Publishing, Music, Comedy, Gaming, Fashion and Content Creation.

The Coalition started two years ago with the idea of enabling young creative individuals to convert their creative ideas into sustainable business opportunities. The event will showcase a variety of brilliant ideas through carefully curated sessions, workshops, panels and networking events. The festival also offers plenty of opportunities to unwind with live performances by musicians, comedians and special screenings.

Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra said, “The indifferent state of Delhi’s cultural environment has seldom received the comprehensive attention that it demands in the agenda of any political party. Despite a rich vibrant history, a multitude of venues and being India’s political capital, Delhi’s culture has been largely ignored with a complete lack of focus on media, entertainment, art, culture, languages and events. Delhi Tourism under CM Arvind Kejriwal is on a mission to change status quo and ensure that Delhi becomes a world-class tourist destination and the leader in art, culture, music, theatre, film and entertainment. Such industry events will ensure that India's coolest new startups and creative ideas get wings to fulfill their dream. We are proud that Coalition is now in Delhi, like most events are now coming into the national capital"

Vijay Nair, CEO, Only Much Louder says, “For us, The Coalition goes beyond a just a platform showcasing creativity, it serves as a hub for inspiration, one that generates ideas, innovations, new technologies, and creative visions that drive progress. It’s time we stopped thinking of the term ‘start-up’ as just something related to digital platforms and IT.”

At the festival, global and local industry leaders will share their insights on transforming imagination and craft into growth. These names include journalism fraternity’s Shekhar Gupta, Raj Kamal Jha (The Indian Express), Sonia Singh (NDTV), Dhanya Rajendran (The News Minute), Meenal Baghel (Mumbai Mirror), Sambit Bal (ESPN Cricinfo), Ajit Mohan (Hotstar), authors Rana Ayyub, Neelesh Misra (Gaon Connection), Baby Halder (Aalo Andhari), Vishwajyoti Ghosh (Delhi Calm), film makers Guneet Monga (producer Zubaan), Fazeelat Aslam (director Saving Face), actress Richa Chadha, designer Anita Dongre, the hospitality world’s Riyaaz Amlani to name a few. The complete list can viewed at http://thecoalition.in/#speakers.

TC3 kicks off with a day-long series of focused sessions with industry experts from 11 distinct creative streams and will be hosted on the grounds of Talkatora Stadium as well as at the British Council, Akshara Theatre, Flyp@MTVcafe in Connaught Place and National Museum in Janpath.

All streams merge together at Talkatora Stadium for the weekend. Creative leaders and visionaries will engage audiences through a series of panels, talks, workshops and business clinics that will support budding creative entrepreneurs by offering advice from key mentors and funders. The festival will also host a power-packed panel discussion with government officials who will listen to and respond to the challenges faced by those in the creative sectors.

Tickets to the festival of creativity will be available on Insider.in. This year, The Coalition, also extends limited fellowships for students, young professionals, aspiring creators and entrepreneurs to attend the festival which covers the cost of the three-day festival pass. The Coalition Partners Fellowship is now open for applications on http://thecoalition.in/#fellowships-form

Summary: Bouncing Cats is the inspiring story of one man’s attempt to create a better life for the children of Uganda using the unlikely tool of hip-hop with a focus on b-boy culture and breakdance. In 2006, Abraham “Abramz” Tekya, a Ugandan b-boy and A.I.D.S. orphan created Breakdance Project Uganda (B.P.U.). The dream was to establish a free workshop that would empower, rehabilitate and heal the community by teaching youth about b-boy culture. Based in Kampala, Uganda, B.P.U. has recently expanded to include permanent classes in Gulu, Northern Uganda. Abramz teaches classes three times a week to more than 300 kids from all parts of the country. Many of the children are homeless, victims of war and poverty, and few can afford proper schooling yet they walk from miles away to attend the B.P.U. classes. As Abramz says, “This is where many people’s pride is. It’s a skill that no one can take away from us.”

Since the 1970s New Delhi's magicians, puppeteers, and circus performers have called the tinsel slum, the Kathputli Colony, their home. Last year the government issued relocation permits to the colony residents; the slum is to be bulldozed, cleared for development. Experience the last remnants of a culture born out of folk art and molded by poverty.
