Delhi govt refers Devansh death case to CBI
Delhi government on Monday referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the case of mysterious death of six year-old student, Devansh, at the Ryan International School, Vasant Kunj on 30 January.
The decision was taken following submission of the magisterial inquiry report to the government, and the demand of the parents of the deceased boy, who wanted the CBI to probe how their child died in the school premises.
The magisterial inquiry has found serious lapses on the part of the school authorities, including the fact that “though the school was functioning on 30th January, despite it not being a normal working day – there was not a single person to administer medical aid in the medical room despite a continuous announcement having been made in this regard.”
To avoid recurrence of such incidents in schools, the Delhi government has ordered a Safety Audit of all private and public schools in the national capital, which will be completed during the next one month.
The magisterial inquiry pointed out the suspicious conduct of school authorities and raised further queries. Therefore, it was decided by the government that in the interest of justice, it will be appropriate to refer the case for investigation to the CBI.
