  • ASSISTANT ENERGY ECONOMIST, BUREAU OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY HAILS THE EFFORTS OF DEPARTMENT OF POWER, GOVERNMENT OF NCT OF DELHI FOR THIS UNIQUE EXERCISE AT SUCH A LARGE SCALE

In order to promote Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation among the various Government departments, Government of NCT of Delhi in association with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), has launched a first of its kind initiative in the country. Under this Initiative, energy audit and star rating of various Delhi Government buildings in Delhi like Delhi secretariat building, Vidhan Sabha, Delhi Transport Corporation Headquarters, GTB Hospital, G.B. Pant Hospital, LNJP Hospital, ISBT (Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, Kashmere Gate), Varunalya complex of Delhi Jal Board etc shall be carried out as a pilot project.

A meeting in this regard was convened under chairmanship of Sh. Satyendar Jain, Minister of Power at Delhi Secretariat on 17.08.2016. The meeting was attended by Secretary (Power), Principal Secretary (Health), Principal Secretary (PWD), Special Secretary (Power), and senior executives of various organization including BEE, EESL, IPGCL, DTL, DJB & DSIIDC.

During the meeting Sh. Satyendar Jain, Minister of Power said that this is the first of it’s kind initiative in the country and Delhi Government is committed to promote and implement the same. He emphasized on the scope of huge power saving potential in air conditioning units, chillers, Space cooling and heating areas etc. Sh. Jain pointed out that considerable savings can be achieved by adopting thermal storage systems for heating and cooling, exploring and adopting geothermal technologies. He also emphasized that considerable savings can also be achieved through time of day based usage of electricity and differential tariff. He said there is lot of scope of energy saving in Hospital buildings and asked Power Department & the BEE to lay special emphasis on them.

Shri Sukesh Jain, Secretary Power, GNCTD informed that under this innovative approach, the Power Department in association with BEE and concerned department shall carryout the baseline star rating of identified buildings. After baseline star rating exercise, Energy Audit of building shall be carried out. Then the concerned departments will implement the recommendation of energy auditors in time bound manner. In order to gauge the achieved savings, a final star rating exercise shall be carried out.

Sh. Girja Shankar, Assistant Energy Economist, Bureau of Energy Efficiency hails the efforts of Department of Power, Government of NCT of Delhi for this unique exercise at such a large scale for government building and informed that this exercise will result in large scale savings of Mega Watts scale. He also confirmed that it is for the first time a State Designated Agency is carrying out this exercise in the country in such an innovative manner
