Several media houses have been running reports on Delhi Minister Mr. Gopal Rai since morning that he was relieved of his duties as Transport Minister because of the ACB Probe and ‘scam’ in the Premium Bus Scheme. The Government of Delhi is shocked at such baseless and malicious reportage.
The Government will like to know from the media what ‘wrongdoing’ has been done in the Scheme. What are the allegations? What is the evidence? It appears to be an attempt by some media houses to repeat the word ‘scam’ several times without any evidence.
The Anti-Corruption Branch did not summon Mr. Rai. He went to ACB on his own with the documents. During their talks with Mr. Rai, even the ACB Officials admitted that they didn’t have any evidence. They admitted that they have not found anything wrong in the Scheme. They were of the view that they don’t have any proof even to lodge an FIR.
A section of media and opposition parties have colluded to spread such rumors. The Government strongly refutes any wrongdoing in the scheme, in-fact the whole scheme has been put out in the public domain. Many experts have hailed it as one of the best schemes. There appears to be an attempt to subvert the scheme to prevent Delhi from getting a modern public transport system.
Mr. Rai recently underwent a very major surgery at Apollo in Delhi and thereafter went to Hyderabad and Chennai for further treatment. He is presently undergoing treatment at the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre in Delhi. He wanted to get relieved of the Ministry looking at his health condition and the amount of work the Ministry of Transport entails. It is shameful that a person who underwent such a major surgery and is going through a tough medical condition is being maligned in such a manner.
The Delhi Government requests the media to either come up with facts & specifics or not to spread and run such false stories.
