  • Delhi govt distributes relief cheques to fire victims of Qutub Road Jhuggies

Delhi Government has provided an immediate relief of Rs 25,000 each to the 197 residents of Qutub Road Jhuggies located in Old City area, which were gutted in a fire on the night of 7th November.

Environment, Forest & Food Supplies Minister Mr Imran Hussain has handed over the relief cheques to 197 residents whose jhuggies were gutted in the fire, barely three weeks back.

Deputy Chief Minister Mr Manish Sisodia along with Mr Hussain had inspected the incident spot on the night of the fire itself and had directed immediate relief for the victims.

The Divisional Commissioner  and the District Magistrate( Central District)  had been directed to ensure an immediate relief of a maximum ex-gratia amount of Rs. 25000/- per jhuggi.

Mr Hussain distributed the relief cheques to victims at the ex-gratia relief camp organised by the Revenue Department (Central District) at the Qutub Road jhuggi area itself.

Sh. Abodh Kumar Mandal, Pradhan of Qutub Road Jhuggi cluster thanked the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Hussain and officers of District Central for their timely help. He informed that the relief amount which was just Rs. 500/- in the year 1997 rose to Rs. 1000/-, 2000/- over a period of time. But it is the present Government which has revised and hiked the relief amount to Rs. 25000/-.

Mr Imran Hussain, while distributing cheques to the victims in the relief camp thanked  the Chief Minister, Deputy  Chief Minister, the Divisional Commissioner, District Magistrate (Central), Fire Department, Delhi Police and Civil DefenceVolunteers etc., for their prompt help.

The Minister thanked the Revenue Department for setting up tents and providing food, water, blankets etc. for a period of 15 days to the fire victims.
