- Delhi govt begins lighting of 7438 dark spots in North and East MCD areas.
New Delhi: 29/10/2016
Fulfilling one of its major election promises of ensuring women safety, the Delhi government on Saturday initiated the implementation of lighting up 7438 dark spots identified under the jurisdiction of North and East Delhi Municipal Corporations.
PWD Minister Mr Satyendar Jain inaugurated the installation of lights to illuminate the dark spots identified by NGO Safetipin, which it had shared with the Delhi Police.
The ambitious project to install lights in the areas under the jurisdiction of the North and East MCDs was implemented following the PWD obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from both the corporations.
PWD Minister Mr Satyendar Jain has set a target of illuminating all the 7438 dark spots in North and East MCDs before the completion of the current financial year (that is before 31st March).
The Minister has said he will consider the lighting of dark spots to be done only after the Safetipin audit endorses that the work has been satisfactorily done.
Earlier, PWD areas were illuminated and the audit was done by Saftipin, which reported to the department that dark spots had been illuminated.
Mr Jain expressed the hope that the South MCD will also expedite the process of granting a NOC to the PWD so that lighting of dark spots across Delhi could be completed at the earliest.
The minister invited suggestions from all stakeholders on how the government could take further steps to make Delhi safe for women.
