  • Delhi govt to begin first phase of month-long fogging from Thursday
  • Fogging to be in full swing from 26th September
  • Delhi govt to supplement the efforts of MCDs

Deputy Chief Minister Mr Manish Sisodia on Tuesday announced a comprehensive roadmap to carry out a month long fogging drive across the national capital to begin from Thursday (September 22nd) aimed at making the national capital Mosquito Free.

Addressing a media briefing along with his cabinet colleague and Health/PWD Minister Mr Satyendar Jain, the Deputy Chief Minister said the Delhi government has decided to supplement the efforts of the three Municipal Corporations of Delhi in carrying out the drive for prevention of vector borne diseases caused by mosquitoes.

Sharing details of the plan, Mr Sisodia said :“First phase of fogging will begin from Thursday and it is planned to have it in full swing from 26th. We hope to have fogging in every street on alternate days.”

The government will begin with 100 machines and plans to take it up to 600 to conduct effective fogging across the city.

“Though this is the work of the municipal authorities, given the seriousness of the situation the government has decided to supplement the MCDs work for this month-long drive which is expected to substantially reduce the possibility of vector borne diseases.”

Mr Sisodia appealed to the MCDs to support the Delhi government in this effort to eradicate all mosquitoes. “We appeal to the MCDs to their duty and we shall do our duty. We do not wish to get into why the primary duty of prevention of vector borne diseases and cleaning of garbage did not happen despite all funds having been released before time and repeated meetings.”

He also appealed to the MCDs to ensure cleanliness of the “dhalaaos” which are often overflowing, with garbage not being cleared regularly.

The Deputy CM urged the MCDs to ensure that silt from the sewers is removed immediately after cleaning. The cleanliness drive should be in tandem with the fogging drive and all efforts must be made to curb the rising number of mosquito borne diseases.

The Deputy Chief Minister also assured that the fogging programme would be conducted according to WHO guidelines.
