Delhi Government to transform existing Delhi mandis to e-mandis
To modernize trade and business within the national capital, the Delhi Government will facilitate technological makeover of existing Delhi Mandis into e-mandis.
This was announced on Tuesday by Development Minister Gopal Rai following a review meeting with the Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board (DAMB). The budget passed by the board for year 2017-2018 is Rs 371.18 crore for the estimated income. The expenditure proposed is Rs 434.19 crore.
“Our main objective is to usher more transparency and accountability in business. We also want to ensure that farmers get their goods at fair value,” said Gopal Rai.
Taking note of demonetisation blues, the Delhi Government has installed 38 POS machines in Delhi mandis to reduce the hardships faced by traders and customers.
The changeover of all mandis is being facilitated in collaboration with the NAM Group.
Some of the major decisions include installing an e-mandi at Delhi border Tikri Khanpur at a budget of Rs Rs 800 crore within 2.5 years.
The market will be equipped with modern facilities, following a national survey of all existing mandis. This market will be developed over an area of 70 acres. A special consultant is also being roped in for to facilitate the changeover. The Delhi government will also facilitate an e-mandi at Azadpur Mandi to relieve congestion there.
Changes are also in the offing for Ghazipur Mandi where a four story building with modern facilities is being constructed. There will also be modernization of the flower market at Ghazipur. The budget allocated for this makeover is Rs 140 crore.
It will also feature 432 shops with cold storage facilities. The poultry market will also see changes at a budget of Rs 120 crore. It will also house a three storey building with modern facilities and 120 shops. Among other changes, the Mongolpuri fodder market is set to be replaced by Sabzi mandi soon.
The Azadpur cement warehouse area will witnesses changes at a cost of Rs 20 crore for reconstruction of three sheds and upgrade of the existing drainage system. Shed number 20 at Azadpur will be renovated at a cost of Rs 12 crore, while shed number 19 is being rebuilt at a cost of Rs 21.5 crore. This will be formally inaugurated on January 6 by the Delhi development Minister Gopal Rai.
