- Delhi Government to organize 20 events as part of Uttarayani Mahotsav across Delhi to promote Purvanchal heritage
Delhi Government since 2016 has been organising the Uttaryani Festival in celebration of the culture and heritage of our fellow citizens who have their origins in Uttarakhand and/or belong to the Purvanchali area.
The Delhi Government conducted 4 programs in 2016, and is conducting 20 programs this year as part of the Uttarayani Mahotsav of 2017/
The Uttarayani Mahotsav will be held from 12th to 14th January 2017. The first event will be held at Patpargunj with an Uttarayani event on 12 January 2017 at Badrinath Mandir, West Vinod Nagar in Patpargunj. At this event, renowned artists like Prasiddh Yuva Lok Gayak Gajender Rana, Bishan Hariyala and Mukesh Kataith will perform other folk supporting artists.
Art and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra will grace the occasion along with senior bureaucrats from the Delhi Government.
This program and festival is historic because the Delhi Government for the first time is officially conducting, funding and organising mass-scale Uttarayani events for the Purvanchali community through support from the Hindi Academy, Teerth Yatra Vikas Committee and the Sahitya Kala Parishad. In past governments, no such institutional support had been provided.
20 programs this year are a marked scale-up for the Delhi Government and shows its commitment to promoting and celebrating the Purvanchali art, culture and heritage. The Vidhan Sabhas in which the Delhi Government will conduct Uttarayani event will be Burari, Ghonda, Badarpur, Patpargunj, Timarpur, Matiala, Patel Nagar, Deoli, Shalimar Bagh, Najafgarh, Rithala, Mehrauli, Vikaspuri, Shahdara, Trilokpuri, New Delhi, Palam, Kondli, GK and Karawal Nagar.
