- Delhi government honours handicrafts artisans with State Awards
Delhi Industries Minister Mr Satyendar Jain on Thursday presented Delhi State Awards 2012 and 2013 to 17 handicrafts artisans at an event organised by the Industries Department, Delhi Government.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Jain congratulated the awardees and expressed the hope that their excellent craftsmanship will encourage them to keep traditional ancient arts alive. “Even in the age of computerization, there is no substitute for our traditional handicrafts. We should make every effort to promote our traditional arts and their creators,” he said.
The awardees for the State Award for 2012 are: Ms Neetu Singh (artificial jewellery), Mr Ram Krishna Baidya (Shola Pit), Mr Narinder (Terra cotta), Ms Nazia (Metal craft), Ms Kum Kum (Madhubani painting), Ms Neetu Verma (Zari Zardozi), Mr Mangni Ram (Leather craft), Mr Iqbal Sheikh (Lakh craft) and Ms Papiya Bhasker (Hand Embriodery).
The awardees for the State Award for 2013 are:
Mr Vikram (Terra Cotta), Mr Dilshad Alam (Cane and Bamboo), Ms Renu Devi (Madhubani painting), Ms Poonam (Beads craft), Ms Qamar Jahan Siddiqui (Hand Embroidery), Mr Deen Dayal (Terra Cotta), Mr Abhishek Dhawan (Wood inlay) and Mr Taj Ahmed (Musical instruments). The awardees received an angavastram, certificate and a check. Among those who attended the event were Mr K.R. Meena, Secretary-cum-Commissioner of Industries and senior officials of the Industries Department.
