Delhi’s Art and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra flagged off a truckload of possessions, belongings and personal artefacts belonging to the Late President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to Delhi from his hometown in Rameshwaram.

A Delhi Government delegation led by Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra visited Rameshwaram, Late President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s hometown. This was a follow-up to the commitment made by the Delhi Cabinet minister to create a museum in the memory of Dr. Kalam in Delhi.

On this visit, the Art and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra and other government officials first paid tribute to Dr. Kalam at his Mazar in Rameshwaram. The Minister met the Late President’s elder brother Mohammed Muthu Meera Lebbai Maraikayar and thanked him for donating many of Dr. Kalam’s personal possessions to the Delhi Government.

Further in what has become international news, this action conducted by Art and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra also comes after a response given by the Minister on 24th November 2015 to a petition where he made the commitment to create a museum of Dr. Kalam in New Delhi, is being hailed as India’s first positive political response by the internationally renowned social transformation website Change.org. It has now been marked as a “Confirmed Victory" by this website after the Minister’s visit to Rameshwaram.

Art and Culture Minister after flagging off the truck of Dr. Kalam’s possessions to Delhi said, "Ironically and sadly, this was something that the Central Government refused to do by sending all his belongings to Rameshwaram and ironically giving his house on 10, Rajaji Marg to the Union Government’s Culture Minister Shri Mahesh Sharma. But we will step in wherever the Central Government fails to do its duties. We will start a museum in memory of Dr. Kalam at the Delhi Haat, INA which we shall inaugurate on July 27th, 2016 which is Dr. Kalam’s first death anniversary. In the meantime, we will host his possessions and belongings at the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, which represents the will and wishes of the people of Delhi. While this museum will ensure that our citizens have a place to view Dr. Kalam’s life, times and memories, the Delhi Government under CM Arvind Kejriwal ji and Dy CM Manish Sisodia ji will bring his teachings and advice to life by ensuring every child gets a proper education that makes him or her truly enlightened, and hopefully produce another Dr. Kalam. That will be our real success."
