Delhi Chief Minister, Shri Arvind Kejriwal today launched the green Delhi programme by planting trees at the Triangular Park at ITO Chowk in Delhi. The function was attended by PWD Minister, Shri Satyendar Jain and Senior Officers of PWD Department.

Launching the programme Chief Minister announced the central verge of 1260 KMs maintained by PWD will be bedded with grass and greenery in order to clean the environment and making it dust free.

Shri Kejriwal said that apart from restoring greenery along the road sides and central verges of the 1260 KMs spread roads, the cleaning of roads will be made by vacuum cleaners.

Growing population of the city and increase in the number of vehicles is deteriorating environment continuously. There has been a huge rise in vehicular pollution because the number of vehicles plying on the roads of Delhi is more than that of three Metropolitan cities of Mumbai, Kolkatta and Chennai. According to the WHO, air pollution is the 5th largest killer in India.

Pollution in Delhi has reached alarming level which needs to be looked into as a serious issue not only by the Government but also by the citizens of the city. The Government of GNCTD is seized of the matter and has taken various policy decisions including “Odd Even Policy” to combat the problem of pollution.

Hon’ble National Green Tribunal (NGT) has also taken cognizance of the increasing levels of pollution in Delhi and issued various directions from time to time to reduce the increasing levels of Pollution.

To reduce the air pollution PWD is making serious efforts by greening of the area under its charge. At present, PWD is maintaining about 1260 kms of roads which comprises of central verges, side verges and the kutcha portion under the flyovers. Many bald patches on the central verges as well as in the side verges which need to be greened to reduce the level of pollution.

Therefore, a comprehensive programme of greening of roadside areas including Islands, Planters, Central Verges on mission mode has been made by the Horticulture wing of PWD, GNCT Delhi. Under this programme, greening of approximately 120 acres of road side areas will be taken up by grassing and planting by pollution absorbing trees and shrubs, such as Thevetianerefolia (Pila Kaner), Nerium oleander (Lal Kaner), Calliandrabrevipes (Powder puff) and Bougainvilleas and trees such a Ficusinfectoria (Pilkhan), Cassia siamea, Pongamiaglabra (Papri), Heterophragmaroxburghii (Marodfali), Azadirachtaindica (Neem), Ficusreligiosa (Pipa), Terminalia arjuna (Arjun). This programme will be completed within three months and estimated expenditure is Rs. 2 crores. It is pertinent to point out that for this program only the treated water being made available by DJB shall be utilised.

The next phase of the programme in the balance area shall be commenced in the month of July and shall be completed by September, 2016.

हरियाली परियोजना


दिल्ली में बढ़ते हुए प्रदूषण को कम करने के लिए दिल्ली सरकार ने यह संकल्प लिया है कि दिल्ली में सड़क के मध्य पट्टिका तथा सड़क के किनारे के खाली स्थानों को विभिन्न प्रकार के पेड़ पौधों झाड़ियों एवम घास को लगाकर हरा भरा बनाया जायेगाA दिल्ली के लो०नि०वि० के उद्यान निदेशालय द्वारा इस कार्यक्रम की विस्तृत योजना बनायीं गयी है जिससे दिल्ली के फ्लाईओवर, सड़क के चौराहों एवम विभिन्न प्रकार के सरकारी कार्यालयों को हरा भरा बनाया जायेगाA इस कार्यक्रम के प्रथम चरण में लगभग 120 एकड़ (485640 Sqm) के क्षेत्र को हरा भरा बनाने का निर्णय लिया गया है तथा इस कार्यक्रम को लगभग 3 महीने में पूरा कर लिया जायेगा इसमें लगभग 2 करोड़ की लागत आयेगीA इस कार्यक्रम के अंतर्गत प्रदूषण को कम करने वाले पौधों का चुनाव किया गया है जैसे नीम, पिलखन, पीपल, अर्जुन, मरोडफली तथा पपड़ी, तथा झाडियों में बोगनवेलिया, लाल कनेर, पिला कनेर तथा कलियान्द्र इत्यादि पौधों का चुनाव किया गया है इस कार्यक्रम के दुसरे चरण की शरुआत वर्षा ऋतु में प्रारम्भ किया जायेगा तथा इसको सितम्बर तक पूरा कर लिया जायेगाA
