  • Chief Minister announces the Entrepreneurship Council for Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Mr Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced the formation of the Entrepreneurship Council for promotion of entrepreneurship and creation of jobs on a large scale in the national capital.

The Council consists of mainly the members from industries and businesses and it will work under the aegis of the Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi (DDC).

The roadmap for setting up of the Council was earlier submitted to the Chief Minister by the DDC vice-chairman Mr Ashish Khetan.

The mandate of the Entrepreneurship council will be to advise the Delhi Government on how to create the best environment leading to job creation in all sectors. The council will give recommendations pertaining to creation of most suitable policy framework for all micro-entrepreneurs, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, New-age start-ups as well as large businesses.

The approach will be first to get feedback from existing business and entrepreneurs in Delhi through face-to- face meetings, field visits and focused group discussions to understand what must be done to improve business environment in Delhi.

The feedback process will be based in two phase viz., Need Assessment Phase and Capacity Building Phase to improve the business environment.

The council’s focus will be on early delivery and would suggest ideas that can be implemented quickly; however in parallel, the council will also recommend infrastructure and policy initiatives so that Delhi can be the Choice city for Entrepreneurship.

The council comprises largely of the first generation entrepreneurs who are primarily from Delhi and had first-hand experience of challenges in setting up and scaling up business in Delhi.

The Council comprises of Mr. Sanjeev Bikhchandani (Founder & Vice Chairman, Naukri.com) as the Chairperson of Council along with members of the council: Mr. Vijay Shekhar Sharma (Founder of Paytm), Mr. Sharad Sharma (Member-Indian Angel Network & Co-founder, iSPIRT Foundation. Held the post of SVP at Yahoo! and CEO of India R&D), Mr. Ashish Gupta (Former COO of Evalueserve, Founder and Trustee – Ashoka University), Mr. Mahesh Murthy (Founder-Pinstorm & Co-Founder- Seedfund, a well known investor in start-ups, advisor to brands), Mr. Vikas Kuthiala (Managing Director – First India Assistance & member of Indian Angel Network), Mr. Subhash Khandelwal (Head of the Task Force on Business and Trade, DDC) and Mr. Brijesh Goyal (Co-Chair, Task Force on Business and Trade, DDC).

Industries Minister Mr Satyendar Jain will be the patron of the Council. The Council is likely to submit its recommendations in three-months time.
