The Environment Minister, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, Sh. Imran Hussain, today participated in a public awareness programme on Anti Fire Cracker Campaign at Central Park, Connaught Place, New Delhi. The programme was also attended by senior officers of Environment Department, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), large no. of children representing Eco-clubs of various schools and colleges, NGOs, RWAs and eminent persons from public.
To create mass awareness among citizens about the harmful effects of fire- crackers on human health, elderly people, children, infants and environment, GNCTD has launched Anti Fire Crackers Campaign. Awareness Campaign have been organized in the schools, colleges and prominent locations in Delhi along with NGOs and RWAs etc.
On this occasion, school children from Gyan Mandir Public School, Naryana Vihar; Mount Abu Public School, Rohini; Bal Bhawan Public School, Mayur Vihar and Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh performed Nukkad-Natak on the theme of celebrating Diwali in eco-friendly way without bursting of loud- sound producing and harmful fire crackers.
School children from Little Flowers Public Senior Secondary School presented a song urging people to support Anti Fire Cracker Campaign.
Sh. Imran Hussain administered Pledge to all the participants to celebrate Diwali this year as Environment Friendly Festival by not bursting harmful crackers, decorating houses with Diyas and Rangoli, distributing sweets and spreading the message of universal brotherhood.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister appealed to all the citizens of Delhi to support Anti Fire Cracker Campaign in big way during Diwali. Hon'ble Minister especially sought the cooperation of children.

Earlier during the day, Shri Imran Hussain reviewed the measures for controlling air pollution in the city with the Secretary (Environment), Spl. Secretary (Environment), Director (Environment), Sr. Scientists of Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). The inspection being done by District Magistrates/SDMs and Police was also appreciated.

During the meeting, officers of Environment Department and DPCC informed that the Anti Cracker Campaign has been undertaken with full thrust. It was informed that one of the major areas of concern are illegal crackers for which 11 teams comprising of SDMs and Environmental Engineers of DPCC are visiting different Markets, seizing the illegal crackers and taking necessary action against the violators. Citizens were also requested to inform about stocking/sale of illegally imported fire crackers on whats app no. 9717593574.

Ambient air is influenced heavily by activities such as agriculture burning, industrial emission, operation of more than 4000 brick kilns and massive ongoing construction activity in NCR etc. of neighbouring States.

Major farm residue fire have been recently reported in Punjab and Haryana. Delhi being on down-wind direction has been impacted severely. Due to this fact, the city may face critically polluted period during the coming days.

To control the local sources of pollution, the Minister instructed different stakeholders to keep a vigil on garbage and biomass burning. The industries were also advised to take steps to achieve the prescribed norms. Recently, Sh. Imran Hussain had reviewed the efforts to curb leaf burning and pollution due to construction activities in Delhi, with all local bodies including North/South/East MCDs, DDA, NDMC, Delhi Cantonment Board and DPCC, PWD, Health Department etc.,

Sh. Imran Hussain appealed to citizen of Delhi to minimize the use of cracker and to follow the timings prescribed by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. Further, he stressed upon citizens for proper maintenance of the vehicles and generators properly and minimizing their use. The week following Diwali with the onset of winter may see increase in air pollution.

Sh. Imran Hussain extended heartiest greetings to the citizens of Delhi on the eve of Diwali.
