- 400 violators arrested so far in the ongoing drive against illegal consumption of liquor in open/public places
Atleast 400 violators have so far been apprehended in the Delhi Government Excise Department’s ongoing special drive to crackdown on the menace of illegal consumption of liquor in the open/public places in the national capital, so far since the drive was launched on 7th November.
(Please find attached the specific details of the locations on which the Excise Department carried out the latest action on Tuesday and Monday).
Deputy Chief Minister and Excise Minister Mr Manish Sisodia had announced a threefold action plan for crackdown on illegal consumption of liquor in the open.
Mr Sisodia has made it clear that the intention of the government is not to put people in jails but to reform them and curb so this menace which is taking a toll on the families and safety of women can be ensured.
The action is being taken against the violators under section 40 of the Delhi Excise Act and they are handed over to Delhi Police in different Police Stations for further action as per law.
Prior to launching this drive, a week-long awareness drive had been conducted in this regard after which arrests were made. Anyone caught drinking publicly will now have to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 and anyone creating nuisance in public will be fined Rs 10,000 and face arrest.
