- 210 violators arrested in first six days of Delhi Govt’s drive against illegal consumption of liquor in open/public places
- 35 violators arrested in various parts of the city on the sixth day (Saturday)
- 26 were arrested on Friday for illegal consumption of liquor in the open

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Mr Imran Hussain on Saturday assured the residents of Delhi there is no shortage of In the first six days of Delhi Government Excise Department’s special drive to crackdown on this menace in the national capital, 210 violators have so far been arrested.

The action is being taken against the violators under section 40 of the Delhi Excise Act and they are handed over to Delhi Police in different Police Stations for further action as per law.
The Delhi Government had announced a threefold action plan for crackdown on illegal consumption of liquor and violation of the Excise Act. A week long awareness drive was launched in this regard recently after which arrests are being made. The government said earlier anyone caught drinking publicly will have to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 and anyone creating nuisance in public will be fined Rs 10,000 and face arrest.
Deputy Chief Minister Mr Manish Sisodia has appreciated the efforts of the Excise Department and asked them to continue the drive so that this menace which is taking a toll on the families and safety of women can be curbed.
